Inmate Had 8 Mobile Phones, Batteries, Chargers In Body

An inmate subjected to an X-ray was found to have eight mobile phones, chargers, cables and SIM cards inside his body.

The unnamed inmate had just been transferred to the Osvaldo Florentino Leite Ferreira Penitentiary in the city of Sinop, west-central Brazil, on 18th September.

Upon entering, officers at the jail noted the man behaving suspiciously. After searching him, they made him undergo an X-ray, which revealed eight mobile phones with their batteries, four USB cable plugs, seven SIM cards and a charger cord inside the man’s body.

He confessed to transporting materials to deliver to other prisoners in the unit.

The man defecated the objects on his own and did not require medical attention.

The objects were sealed in balloons and duct tape.

He told the police that he would receive a sum of money if he managed to deliver the goods.

The man was subsequently taken to the isolation wing of the prison, in line with COVID-19 regulations.

The prison manager has said that they are investigating who ordered the material and who recruited the prisoner.
