Police are seeking 31-year-old Raven Yates, who has been charged in absentia with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return.

She is accused of leaving her school-age daughter and young son alone at the family home in Roman Forest, Texas.

Police believe they had been abandoned in the property for about one and a half months before they were found in grim conditions in November 2022.

Police chief Stephen Carlisle told local media: “No food in the house; everything was empty. There were some dry beans and spices. That was it.”

Investigators also told how a pungent stench of urine lingered in the young boy’s bedroom.

They also say the suspect threatened her daughter, telling her that if she told anyone, her father would take her away and leave her little half-brother alone.

The half-siblings are believed to have survived because the girl asked her father to get takeaway food delivered to the home, claiming her mother was working.

But he found out what was going on when family members spotted Yates without the children in her home city – Mobile, Alabama – and alerted him.

The girl’s father called police and travelled to Texas from his home in California.

He told how when the family moved to the Lone Star State about one year ago, the children were not enrolled in school.

Yates has been a wanted woman since December. At the time of reporting, police had not managed to locate her, despite her regular social media postings.

The children – and another, 14-year-old daughter of Yates, who ran away from home before the latest incident – are with another family member and out of harm’s way.

Roman Forest Police Department said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “On November 14, 2022, a concerned father reported to the Roman Forest Police that his 12 year old daughter has been home alone with her 3-year-old brother since September 28, 2022, much of the time without access to food or medical supplies.

“The father, who lives out of state, immediately flew in from California where he had been working at the time.

“The father had been informed that his child’s mother had been seen in Mobile Alabama without her children and realized they were home alone because he had been asked by his daughter to send food regularly.

“The children are not registered in school and had been left at home alone from September 28th to November 14th.

“Following an investigation, an arrest warrant has been issued for the mother, Raven Yates, for 2 counts of Abandon Endanger Child Without Intent to Return.

“The mother, Raven Yates, is believed to be in the Mobile Alabama area.

“Roman Forest Police and Mobile Police have been working together on this case. The two children are safe with a family member in Alabama.”
