The idiot who killed a mum of one with a firework on a packed beach in Brazil has been charged with her murder.

Civil Police have charged 18-year-old Christian Luan dos Santos Oliveira with first-degree murder over the incident in Praia Grande on New Year’s Eve.

They say he was the person who lit the pyrotechnic that struck victim Elisangela Tinem Goncalves in the chest.

Before the 38-year-old could throw the firework away, it went off with a bang, killing her at the scene.

Civil Police chief Alex Mendonca had earlier argued that Oliveira should be charged with murder – rather than manslaughter – because he should have known that lighting the firework on the packed beach was extremely reckless.

The suspect was identified by police through this footage of the horror filmed by revellers.

He was arrested at his home in Sao Paulo on 16th January and taken back to Praia Grande for questioning.

He admitted setting off the firework but denied intent.

In addition to Elisangela’s death, her cousin – 41-year-old Alexander Freitas Goncalves – was injured as he tried to help her.

Elisangela leaves behind a 13-year-old son.

The sale and marketing of fireworks in Praia Grande have been prohibited by municipal law since 1991.
