This man has been arrested for strangling his grandmother to death because he believed the 75-year-old was ‘casting black magic’ spells on their family.

The incident took place in the village of Radinac in the municipality of Smederovo in Serbia.

Local media report 32-year-old suspect Jasmin Selmanovic attacked his grandmother Zivadinka Miladinovic, 75, at the family home when his mother Dusica and sister Suada went outside for a short while.

Reports state Selmanovic walked up to Miladinovic as she was lying on the sofa and began to strangle her.

The grandmother is said to have tried to defend herself but could not overcome her grandson’s strength and he strangled her to death.

Selmanovic then reportedly called the police to turn himself in.

Cops are said to have found the 32-year-old sitting next to the body and when he was asked why he had killed her he allegedly said she had been “casting black magic with garlic on him, his sister and mother” and he blamed the black magic for their “bad life”.

Local residents claimed that Selmanovic had been receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital and his mother had brought him to his grandmother’s house for a holiday.

The suspect was arrested but it is not clear whether an investigation has been opened.
