This footage shows firefighters capturing a giant 55-lb mother python which has eaten a farmer’s ducks before laying dozens of eggs around the farm.

The reptile, believed to be a Burmese python (Python bivittatus), was found curled up inside the duck feed storage unit in Fangchenggang City in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The farmer who reported at least 10 of his ducks devoured by the predatory animal called the fire service on the morning of 23th June.

Dispatched to the duck farm were 14 firefighters, some of whom distracted the python while others captured it and put it in a steel cage.

But authorities also found dozens of the snake’s precious eggs inside the storeroom, learning that the mother python had likely sought out the shelter in order to lay her offspring.

They carefully put the eggs in sacks and carried them off together with the Burmese python, which they say weighed roughly 25 kilogrammes (55 lbs).

They have handed the reptile and its eggs over to local wildlife rangers who are expected to release it back into the wild at a more secluded location.

Burmese pythons are a Class I state-protected species in China, where their hunting and the trade of their related products is prohibited.
