This is the moment firefighters rescue a puppy trapped under a bus station walkway and lift the pooch to safety after locals shared snaps of the sad animal imprisoned hungry and thirsty within the structure.

The incident was filmed at the Country Sur Station in the central Colombian capital Bogota and shared on Twitter where it has been viewed 56,000 times.

In the clip, two firefighters are seen lifting the dog to safety after opening a panel to reach the trapped animal.

A makeshift lead is then tied around the pooch’s neck to prevent it from running away.

According to local media, several passengers heard the dog barking and called the local authorities who arrived on the scene.

Twitter user ‘Paula Casas’ shared a photo of the dog’s head poking out of a gap in the wall and a representative of the bus company TransMilenio immediately responded to let the netizen know that the fire brigade was on its way.

Bogota firefighters then reached the dog and posted a video of the rescue on social media.

It is currently unclear how the dog managed to trap itself underground.

Netizen ‘LeonelaManrique’ said: “Look how it wags its tail out of gratitude. Beautiful! Thank you firefighters.”

‘Nightblue31’ commented: “It is already back with its family, thank you for your concern.”

‘FlloraT’ wrote: “Well done to the firefighters for rescuing the little dog. There are still people out there with a good heart.”
