This is the moment a cop car races down the street and crashes into a motorist before it is seen tumbling over and spinning on its side.

The incident was filmed by CCTV cameras in the district of Esenyurt in the north-western Turkish province of Istanbul and was later shared on social media.

In the clip, the white estate car is seen turning onto the road as an oncoming police car drives down the road at high-speed.

The cop driver appears to take evasive action to avoid hitting the estate, and he clips the kerb.

The police car then overturns in the air and smashes into a lamppost before spinning along the road for a reported 50 metres (164 feet).

In another angle, the estate car is seen dawdling in the middle of the road for some time before finally deciding to turn left, just as the police car enters the frame.

Meanwhile, dozens of bystanders rush over to the patrol car to check on the occupants.

According to local media, the officer driving the patrol car, identified as F.A., managed to escape the badly damaged vehicle with only minor injuries.

Bystanders called the emergency services and paramedics treated F.A. at the scene while his colleagues cordoned off the area around the felled lamppost.

It is unclear whether the car driver, identified as H.E., has been arrested.

However, the police confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
