This is the moment firefighters meticulously cut open a water-pipe fitting with an electric blade to free a tiny meowing kitten wedged inside.

The incident was filmed in the neighbourhood of Adnana Menderes in the city of Yalova in the north-western Turkish province of the same name, and was widely shared on social media.

In the footage, a frantic ginger kitten is seen half-hanging out of the plastic fitting as two firemen carefully use a cutter to free the trapped feline.

The fluffy kitten is heard meowing constantly as firefighters take special care not to slash the animal with the cutter.

After repeatedly scoring a line down the length of the fitting, they eventually managed to prise it open and rescue the cute ginger kitten.

According to local media, residents first heard the cat’s meows and eventually located the sounds coming from inside a water pipe.

They tried to free the animal themselves, but were unable to as its head was stuck.

They called the emergency services and firefighters arrived on the scene to meticulously cut open the pipe fitting.

One of the firefighters wedged a blade inside the tube to prevent the cutter from harming the kitten.

Reports said that it took over an hour for the firemen to free the cat and then release it.
