This is the moment a stray cat falls from a ceiling panel and terrifies a female bank clerk sitting below.

Footage of the shrieking employee has since gone viral on social media with more than two million views.

It has also called into question the state of security at the Qinling branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which is in Zhengzhou, capital of Central China’s Henan Province.

The video shows the clerk sitting behind her desk and busy filling out paperwork for a client’s cash withdrawal when the apparently stray cat falls from above.

It lands on her arms and sends her springing from her seat screaming, with the animal then frantically leaping around the room looking for a place to escape.

The clerk can be heard saying: “That scared me! There’s a cat. There’s a cat.”

A bank spokesperson has moved to reassure clients that their money is safe.

This comes after social media users called into question the bank’s security, saying the clerks were meant to be working in a sealed environment where all their assets are securely locked away.

Further investigation is ongoing, with staff members theorising the cat may have entered the bank via the air-conditioning vents.
