This is the moment a demolition goes horribly wrong when a multi-storey building falls on top of an excavator, burying the driver in rubble.

The accident happened in the county of Jianshi in Enshi City in China’s central Hubei Province on 12th January.

Officials now investigating the case say the excavator was tearing down vacated buildings in the town of Yezhou as part of a plan to remodel the area.

The accident happened when the pillars supporting one of the buildings suddenly gave way, causing the structure to collapse down on the single digger.

The distressing video shows the multi-storey building crumbling onto the excavator, burying it and its driver in rubble.

The collapse kicks up a large plume of dust, which spreads in all directions as other works at the site begin rushing over to check on their colleague.

Reports say the driver was eventually freed and taken to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.

County officials said in a statement that they place “great importance” on the worksite accident and are investigating further.
