This is the moment a dog reportedly drives its master’s SUV into a pond after the owner left his car engine running and the excited pooch accidentally bumped it into gear.

The bizarre incident was captured by a surveillance camera in the city of Xinguang, which is in Pujiang County in East China’s Zhejiang Province, on 11th December.

In the video, the white SUV belonging to villager Mr Jia is seen parked next to other cars when it suddenly moves forwards and plunges into the pond in front of it.

The vehicle with its engine running and its boot open drives into the shallow water, and Mr Jia arrives seconds later, watching as it floats away to the other side.

The hapless owner’s pooch, which he believes caused the accident, can be seen sticking its head out the sunroof as local residents rush to save it.

Mr Jia said: “I was preparing to leave but realised I had left my wallet and a box of products behind.

“I opened my boot so I could load the goods when I came back.

“While I was walking back, my dog saw me and jumped up because it was very excited.

“It somehow shifted my car into gear and drove it into the pond.

“After the car was driven into the pond, nearby villagers helped save my dog. I’m very grateful to them.”

Mr Jia did not reveal what breed of dog he keeps, or whether his vehicle was insured for such accidents.
