This man who allegedly threw alcohol over his wife and set her alight in front of their four children has been charged with femicide after she suffered 70 percent burns and died in agony months later.
The 38-year-old victim, identified as Vanesa Evangelina Caro, was reportedly attacked by her husband Leonardo Victor Zeniquel, 34, after an argument at their house in the city of Ingeniero Budge in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires.
Local media said the incident took place in front of the couple’s four young children, who told the police that their father threw alcohol over their mum and set her alight.
The victim’s sister Carolina said: “The children told us how their father set fire to their mum. They said that they were fighting at the time. The 10-year-old said their dad arrived crazy.”
According to the sister, when she arrived at the house, the husband was sitting next to the badly-burned victim telling her that she is “all right”.
Zenique was arrested while his injured wife was taken to hospital with 70 percent burns to her head and body.
The couple was reportedly separated at the time of the attack.
The attack occurred in March this year, but the victim has died this week of complications relating to her injuries.
Following several months in hospital, she was moved to her mother’s home to continue treatment.
Her sister said: “Vanessa was staying at my mum’s house. They were taking care of her because of the respiratory problems she was experiencing due to that monster.
“That day around noon, her tracheotomy closed up and she was rushed to the Hospital Posadas. Half an hour after arriving, the doctors told us that she had died.”
The suspect, who has a history of violence towards his wife, has now been charged with femicide, according to reports.
The investigation continues.
