Escaped Ostrich Runs At Full Pelt Along Town Street And Whacks Into Woman On Bike

This is the bizarre moment an escaped ostrich runs straight into a cyclist at full speed and knocks her to the ground, breaking her wrist and leaving a gash on her head.

The unusual scene was filmed in the town of Ranchos in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires on 21st March.

In the video, the woman is seen cycling on a crossroad as the runaway ostrich sprints at full pelt along the road.

The big bird encounters the cyclist in the middle of the crossroad and apparently realises at the last moment, spreading its wings and dropping to the ground.

The ostrich skids into the bike, sending the woman crashing to the ground.

Seemingly injured, the ostrich hobbles away and even falls over at one point before disappearing from view.

Meanwhile, a witness walks over to the dazed woman to offer help.

According to local reports, the cyclist was helped by a witness who called the emergency services and she was taken to a nearby hospital with a broken wrist and large cut on her head. Her life is not said to be in danger.

A neighbour reportedly keeps two ostriches as pets despite being considered wild animals in the country, and one of them escaped from his property.

The incident sparked outrage in the neighbourhood and residents are calling for the owner to be held responsible. However, it is unclear if the local authorities are investigating the matter.

According to an expert interviewed by the news site TN, ostriches are capable of adapting to any environment after four months of age, despite normally being raised on farms.
