This is the shocking moment a cop car drives up to where a woman is lying badly injured in the middle-of-the-road and simply drives around her – and then disappears off into the distance.

The person lying in the road had reportedly been the victim of a hit-and-run in the Bulukumba Regency, in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province.

A woman is giving commentary showing the victim of the hit-and-run lying lifeless on the road as the sound of the police siren can suddenly be heard travelling along the road that connects Bulukumba and Sinjai regencies and where the accident took place.

But although it put on its warning lights, as it eased around the lifeless body, once it got to the other side the police officer then switch them off and simply carried on going, to the shock of those standing around.

It was reported that the Highway Patrol Unit (PJR) car was providing escort duty at the time and decided that that was more important than dealing with the hit-and-run victim, but nevertheless that did not impress the officer’s superiors who confirmed that the officer had been suspended.

In a written statement the acting head of the South Sulawesi Police Public Relations Division, Kombes Ade Indrawan, said: “The police personnel recorded in the amateur video have been released from the Traffic function.”

The officer, who has not been named, was found guilty of neglecting the duty of providing assistance is the difference between life and death can often be a matter of minutes, and in their defence they insisted that they have radioed the incident in to colleagues from the local unit.

The woman victim survived and is apparently recovering from her injuries at the family home after being released from hospital.
