This is the moment a reportedly drunk driver tries to overtake a car at the last moment and crashes head-on into a SUV.

According to local media, the Chevrolet Cruze driver caused the crash on the Arkhangelsk-Severodvinsk Motorway near the city of Arkhangelsk in the north-western Russian region of the same name.

In the dashcam footage, a line of cars is seen travelling along the motorway as a single vehicle approaches on the other side.

An overtaking silver car suddenly comes into view and smashes into the oncoming SUV, sending sparks flying and the Chevrolet Cruze spinning.

In another view, the allegedly-drunk driver is seen recklessly overtaking a car before attempting to pass the next vehicle.

The Chevrolet Cruze pulls out onto the other side of the road to overtake the car and ends up driving head-on into the SUV.

The local police said that the unnamed Chevrolet Cruze driver was drunk at the time of the accident.

The regional department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said that both drivers were injured in the crash.

There have been no updates on their condition as the police investigation continues.
