Lorry Driver Kills Champ Female Cyclist Training On Road

This beautiful young cycling champion has reportedly been killed on the road while training by a lorry driver who failed to see her.

Zeynep Aslan, 32, was a female cyclist for the Karsiyaka Municipality Youth and Sports Club Cycling Team in the Turkish province of Izmir.

She was reportedly killed by a lorry driver in the neighbourhood of Kaklic in the district of Cigli.

The body of Aslan, who died at the accident scene, has been sent for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the unnamed lorry driver has been placed under arrest.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Aslan was training on a secondary road undergoing works and that the lorry driver hit the cyclist without apparently seeing her.

The death of the mother-of-one caused sadness in the region’s sports community.

In August, Aslan won first place in the women’s category at the Gran Fondo Bicycle Race in Bursa.

Karsiyaka mayor Cemil Tugay said: “I have learned with great sadness that Zeynep Aslan, one of the most successful cyclists of the Karsiyaka Municipality Youth and Sports Club Cycling Team, has died as a result of being hit by a lorry while training on her bike.”

The mayor also offered his condolences to the victim’s family.

The investigation is ongoing.
