According to local media, the area has been battered by storms and flash floods and the cute dog, which has an owner and is called Spike, saw residents picking rubbishing out of the flooded street and decided to do the same.

Spike’s owner Dara Michelle told local media: “We always have a lot of problems with the drainage system here. Every time it rains, rubbish gathers on the roadside.”

“Spike saw a group of kids collecting rubbish and started to do the same thing!

“He collected plastic bags, wrappers, tins, anything that was small enough for him to take out of the water with his mouth.

“Many people wanted our address so they could send Spike food as a thank-you!”

According to local media, over 50 tons of waste ended up in Monterrey’s sewer system following the period of flash floods.
