A man accused of posing as a millionaire to buy a fleet of luxury supercars with dud cheques has been seized by police.
Suspect Angel Reyes, 44, drove away from one dealership with a 211mph Ferrari F8 Tributo paid for with a bogus cheque for USD 468,702 (GBP 378,350).
When the horrified dealers in Houston, Texas state, USA, called to say the cheque had bounced, he sent them fake screenshots of a USD-1.6 million (GBP-1.2 million) bank balance.
Brazen Reyes even boasted about his rare cars on social media, say police.
He was finally seized when a witness saw the distinctive brand-new blue car parked outside a restaurant and called the dealership.
When staff confronted the driver he said he had borrowed it from Reyes and surrendered the keys.
Reyes was later picked out in a police lineup and charged with first-degree theft on 23rd March, report local media.
And as police investigated Reyes, they found he had a USD-1 million (GBP-800,000) fleet of luxury cars all bought with dud cheques.
As well as the Ferrari, he had a Maserati MC20, a Mercedes Benz S580, a Range Rover Velar and an Audi R8.
In total, Reyes is suspected of having issued bounced cheques worth USD 1,190,048 (GBP 961,618).
Police said Reyes has previously faced fraud charges.
Houston Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “He was posting a lavish lifestyle on social media and is believed to have committed a significant amount of fraud to support that lifestyle.
“Please check your customer records to see if there are any other potential cases related to this suspect.”
Reyes has reportedly been scheduled for a court hearing on 8th May.
