Four suspects arrested for gang-raping a 14-year-old girl say the schoolgirl had consented to have sex with all of them in a bid to escape jail.

The suspects, who have not been named, were sent to preventative custody by the investigating judge number one from the municipality of Ontinyent in the Spanish autonomous community of Valencia on Saturday 3rd October.

As details of the shocking case emerged, it was revealed that after she was raped, the person who had taken her to the party had also then demanded sex in order to drive her home afterwards, according to local newspaper El Levante El Mercantil Valenciano.

It is unclear if that individual took part in the gang rape or was only involved in the fresh attack after the ordeal.

It as also revealed that another person alleged to have participated in the sexual assualt was underage, and therefore, is not being kept in preventive custody while his case is being investigated.

All four of the others were sent to a prison in the Spanish municipality of Picassent despite their defence claims that the sexual relations were consensual.

There have been no reports on the ages or identities of the suspects.

The rape allegedly occurred at a birthday party of one of the victim’s friends in the Valencian town of Xativa on the night of 26th September to the early hours of 27th September.

According to the local newspaper El Pais, anywhere between 15 to 20 people went to the party and were aged between 18 and 25 years, but some minors also attended the party which had alcoholic drinks.

Authorities were first alerted by the victim’s mother after the 14-year-old told a friend, which somehow then made it back to her mother.

Police conducted six detentions in the following two days. One of the suspects was let go the same day as he is underaged.

Another was released because he did not actively participate in the alleged gang rape but has been charged with failure in the duty to assist.

The suspect who is a minor gave a statement to the Spanish Civil Guard and is set to do the same with the District Attorney’s Office for Minors which will decide if he is allowed to remain free until his trial.

According to local newspaper Levante El Mercado Valenciano, the 14-year-old was taken to the party by one of the alleged attackers.

It is unclear if they have been given a trial date.
