A man accused of repeatedly stabbing his model ex-girlfriend before strangling her to death while their toddler children slept next door has gone on trial in Germany.
The defendant, named only as Endurance E., 22, due to local privacy laws, is on trial for manslaughter after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend Tunidad U., 24, in the face before strangling her to death while their two children aged two and three slept in the bedroom in the next room.
The defendant reportedly began arguing with his ex-girlfriend who was an aspiring model after picking up their son from nursery school in Neuenrade, a town in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, on 19th March.
Endurance and Tunidad, who was nicknamed “Frances”, according to German daily Bild, then had a heated argument after he dropped the kids off.
He claims that she pulled a knife and injured his upper arm but in the struggle, he gained the upper hand and allegedly repeatedly stabbed her in the face. He then suffocated her to death, the court heard.
The defendant, who reportedly moved to Germany in 2017 from Nigeria along with the victim, then called the emergency services crying and asking for help.
He reportedly repeatedly told the emergency services on the phone: “My wife is on the floor. Dead. We had a fight.”
The recording of the phone call is part of the evidence being presented during the trial.
Responding emergency workers tried to save the young woman but it was in vain.
They also found the children asleep in their room, having apparently not heard the fighting.
The defendant has so far not commented on the allegations but his lawyer, named as Andreas Trode, 59, told Bild: “He will make a statement at a later date.”
The children, who have not been named, are currently with foster parents.
The trial is ongoing.
