This is the moment a man lies on top of his mistress to protect her from his furious wife and pals who rain down kicks on top of the pair.

The incredible scenes played out in front of large crowds in the county of Fanchang, which is in Wuhu in East China’s Anhui Province, last month.

In the video taken by witnesses, the allegedly unfaithful husband has been accosted by his wife, who is wearing a grey dress, as well as three of her best friends.

He is seen crying for help while lying on top of his mistress, whose clothes have been partially ripped off and scattered across the street where the violence takes place.

According to witnesses, the cheating husband had been caught red-handed by his wife, sought to shame the secret lovers by stripping them in public.

But the husband staunchly defends his girlfriend by repelling his wife and her friends, who try to pull him away from the alleged ‘homewrecker’.

The husband is kicked and slapped by his wife, but he does not let go of his girlfriend who can also be heard crying on the ground.

Towards the end of the video, with the man shouting “call the police!”, the wife beats her husband with a shoe, but he emerges victorious as he escapes with his stunned mistress.

Witnesses said the lovers fled the scene before the police arrived.

Adultery is not a punishable crime in mainland China, leaving many spurned husbands and wives having to confront their unfaithful spouses in a similar manner.

When arrests are made in the aftermath of such cases, the punishment is often minor, coming in the form of a few days’ detention for public order offences.
