A 68-year-old former Russian colonel has been arrested for apparently accidentally shooting his 30-year-younger wife’s suspected boyfriend dead in a love-triangle row.

According to local media, Vladislav Pimenov, a former colonel of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, allegedly killed the man he suspected of being his 38-year-old wife’s lover dead when he fired a warning shot that him in the leg – severing an artery.

The incident reportedly took place at the married couple’s home in the western Russian capital Moscow.

When Pimenov arrived at the house on the fateful evening, he found his wife in a drunken state and they began to argue, according to local media.

The unnamed wife then called a male associate who Pimenov long suspected of being more than just her friend.

After she got the unnamed man involved in their marital argument, the former colonel became more certain than ever that he was his wife’s lover and when the younger man arrived at the house, a love-triangle row erupted, according to reports.

Local media said that a fight broke out between the two men and after the ex-colonel was beaten by his rival, he went to the bathroom to clean himself up.

Pimenov then returned with a gun and fired a warning shot at the window to scare his rival, but the man responded by punching him in the face, according to reports.

The ex-colonel then fired another shot which several sources said was not aimed directly at the man, but instead hit him in the femoral artery after ricocheting off the floor, wall and ceiling.

The victim reportedly died of blood loss, and Pimenov gave himself up to the police who arrived on the scene.

Friends of the married couple claimed they regularly became embroiled in jealous rows, and some neighbours also said they suspected the younger wife of having an affair with another man, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.
