This is the moment a huge crane boom snaps in half and collapses on a busy city street crushing a car.

The accident happened at the junction of Xinhua Road and Sanxian Road in the city of Dengzhou, which is in Central China’s Henan Province, at roughly 11 am local time on 2nd December while the crane was taking part in dismantling a decommissioned television tower.

A statement by the municipal government said one person was killed while two others were injured as the heavy boom fell and crushed a car and hit other nearby vehicles.

Footage taken by witnesses shows the old Dengzhou TV tower being taken apart by the large mobile crane, which was anchored to the road.

In the video, the tip of the tower is being lowered towards the ground when a loud crack is heard.

With the top of the tower some 20 metres (65 feet) from the ground, the entire boom breaks at its joint and the unbalance mobile crane falls onto its right side.

Vehicles on the ground below are crushed by the overturning crane, with footage showing the lengthy boom occupying several dozens of feet of the road surface.

Dengzhou officials have confirmed the casualty count but did not reveal the identities of the victims.

They did not say whether the crane operator was harmed.

An investigation is ongoing.
