This restaurant has been closed after these two rats were filmed casually nibbling on a large piece of beef hanging in a restaurant window in full view of shocked pedestrians.

The beef hot pot business named Shui Yuan was quietly shut in the middle of the night after the footage – seen over two million times online – went viral on social media on 1st December.

The restaurant supposedly serving fresh high-quality beef products operated on Jinxin Road in the city of Shantou, which is in China’s southern Guangdong Province.

Local market and food safety officials were alerted to possible hygiene concerns after a passer-by spotted the two rodents gnawing on a piece of beef hanging in the shop window.

In the video, the small animals do not appear perturbed by the pedestrian as they are filmed feasting on the raw meat.

The little rats claw and chew away at the beef before each scampering away as the clip ends.

According to reports, Shui Yuan was shuttered overnight and its shop signs were removed within 24 hours of reports going viral.

Officials have not identified the business’s owner but said inspectors found the restaurant failed to meet food hygiene standards.

An order was sent for the business to cease operations as investigations continue, officials added.
