Surveillance cameras have captured the distressful moment a reckless driver hit a pregnant woman seven feet up in the air in Russia.
The woman, whose identity was not disclosed but was reportedly aged 27, was patiently waiting at the beginning of the unregulated pedestrian crossing in the city of Kaliningrad, Russia.
Shortly after, a driver in the first lane soon stopped and allowed the woman to cross, as she made the first steps towards the other side of the road.
But right before she reached the middle of the road, she was savagely hit by a Volkswagen Passat driver who attempted to overtake the other vehicles with a skyrocketing speed.
CCTV footage showed the gruesome moment the unnamed 47-year-old driver threw the pregnant woman two metres (seven feet) up in the air at the Yuri Gagarin Street.
As he stopped the vehicle, the woman then landed on the car’s bonnet and rolled down while hitting the side barrier on the road.
The sound of the driver hitting the breaks just moments before the collision, along with the sound of impact can also be heard in the videos.
The incident reportedly happened around 8am on Monday, 15th November.
A spokesperson from the Kaliningrad Traffic Police Department later confirmed that the woman was transferred to the hospital severely injured.
The police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Dear drivers, be extremely careful when passing pedestrian crossings, slow down even if you do not see pedestrians, because they may be closer than you think.
“Dear pedestrians, remember, before crossing the road, you need to look around and make sure that the crossing is safe.
“This rule must be observed by any pedestrian at each road crossing.”
The surveillance footage that emerged on social media shortly after outraged Russian netizens who did not withhold criticism.
One user ‘Airmouse’ said: “The 47-year-old old man has not accumulated brains in his stupid and worthless life!”
Another one ‘Mi26rostov’ added: “Weird traffic light! Flashes for a long time. Don’t know how to pass.
“And in general, why do people not have the habit of slowing down in front of pedestrians?
“It’s elementary! And it takes a split second of your time!”
Media have not disclosed what kind of legal consequences will face the driver.
