This is the moment a boy rolls out of the way of a huge SUV at the last minute, narrowly avoiding having his head crushed by its wheels, when he was caught up in a multi-vehicle collision.

The incident took place on Simao da Mota Avenue in the city of Mage in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro at around 1 pm on Thursday, 14th October.

CCTV footage shows a man riding his bicycle along the road with a six-year-old boy, who is possibly his son, riding pillion.

Though they come to a halt, they do not have enough time to get out of the path of oncoming vehicles, which hit them head-on, knocking them off the bicycle.

The footage shows how they are hit head-on by a motorbike, which had been shunted by a hatchback, which in turn had been hit from behind by a fast-travelling SUV.

After being thrown to the ground, the bicycle rider is seen being hit by the SUV and dragged along the road under its bumper.

The boy, on the other hand, who was also knocked to the ground, is seen having a lucky escape with the SUV’s front wheel missing his head by a whisker.

The man, identified as 54-year-old Humberto dos Santos, was taken to the Adao Pereira Nunes State Hospital in the neighbouring city of Duque de Caxias in a serious condition.

The boy, who is seen in the footage getting up and walking away, did not require medical attention.

It was not reported what caused the crash nor whether it is being investigated by the police.
