This is the moment a woman in a people carrier apparently confuses the brake with the accelerator while reversing out of a parking spot and runs over a female pedestrian.

The accident happened in Shenzhen’s Bao’an District in China’s southern Guangdong Province on 28th May.

CCTV footage shows the driver’s white people carrier slowly reversing out of a parking space when the victim walks into frame.

The pedestrian looks straight ahead while walking behind the people carrier, which suddenly jolts backwards and rams the woman.

The victim is pushed onto the pavement and run over by the vehicle as it crashes to a stop.

The local fire service found the woman pinned to the bottom of the people carrier and raised the car chassis using an inflatable device.

According to rescuers, two fire engines and 13 firemen were on scene, with the victim freed roughly seven to eight minutes later.

The victim sustained injuries to her right arm and face, but was fortunately not in any life-threatening condition.

The driver, who has not been named, is believed to have muddled the pedals beneath her feet and stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake when she spotted the pedestrian behind her car.

The crash is still under investigation.
