Young Woman Attempting Suicide On Metro Tracks Dragged To Safety By Cops

This is the moment police rescue a young girl who was attempting to commit suicide in a metro station in Spain’s capital city.

The incident occurred at the Lavapies metro in Madrid, Spain at 5.35 pm on Sunday (13th June).

The security camera captured the young girl dressed in sportswear nervously moving closer and closer to the tracks.

She looks around several times as she peers over the edge of the platform and waits for the next metro.

Footage from the camera at the entrance to the station shows police officers and security guards rushing down the stairs as they race against the clock to stop the girl from jumping.

Local news site Antena 3 reports that the girl’s mother, 35, had called the police to warn them she believed her daughter was about to try and kill herself at the metro station.

The girl appears to notice the police coming her way and she clumsily climbs onto the tracks.

The police officers and the security guards quickly lean over the platform, grab the girl and pull her to safety.

The police said on Twitter: “Security personnel and city police were able to rescue a woman who had climbed onto the tracks at the Lavapies metro station”

They added: “Thanks to the speed of the responders a tragic outcome was avoided.”

The identity of the girl has not been disclosed.

The Spanish National Institute of Statistics says that 70,000 people in Spain attempt suicide every year and it is the leading cause of death among young people aged between15 and 29.
