A 20-year-old mother has been charged with stabbing her newborn baby boy to death shortly after giving birth in a bid to hide her pregnancy from her boyfriend.
The aggressor, identified in reports as Melany Paulina, reportedly gave birth in her house located on Caoba Street in Zimiz colony in the municipality of Santa Catarina, in the north-eastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon on 28th August.
Local media report that shortly after giving birth, the woman started to stab the baby boy with a sharp weapon, stabbing it in the thorax and neck until its death.
At around 8 am that morning, neighbours reportedly noticed that the woman was lying on her patio in a seemingly poor condition. She was taken to the University Hospital where it was confirmed she had recently given birth.
State officers were then sent to her house and they are said to have found the body of the newborn baby, which had been born in the 36th week of pregnancy. After confirming the tot’s death, the mother was arrested and charged with homicide.
Local media report the woman killed the baby to hide her pregnancy from her boyfriend, who did not know she was pregnant but this hypothesis has not been officially confirmed.
Local media reported that according to official data from the government, three minors are murdered daily in Mexico.
