This is the moment three half-naked divers jump into a frozen Russian lake to frolic around a Christmas tree they had ‘planted’ on the lake bottom.
The incident was filmed on Lake Baikal in the southern Russian region of Irkutsk Oblast after the trio planted a Christmas tree on the bed.
The half-naked divers have been identified as Egor Lesnoy, Evgheny Lohov and Alexander Manakov and they reportedly used five-kilogramme weights to keep the tree fixed to the bottom of the lake.
One of the men, Egor Lesnoy, filmed the icy scenes and shared the footage on social media where it has been widely circulated by netizens.
In the video, the trio is seen entering the frozen lake through a triangular Xmas-tree shaped hole they cut into the solid surface.
Wearing only trunks, aqua shoes and Santa hats, the three Russian divers swim to the bottom to circle and ‘dance’ around the Christmas tree while wearing only the trunks and hats.
According to local media, the trio will remove the tree from the bottom of the lake in the New Year.
According to Egor, it was his friend’s idea to film themselves circling around the Christmas tree without the aid of oxygen tanks or diving suits.
He told Central European News (CEN): “This was not our first time free diving in the Baikal during the winter, but it is the first time we have danced around the Christmas tree at the bottom of the lake.”
Egor also told CEN that they declined to wear wet suits in winter to show what tough Siberians are capable of.
