This is the moment a young man uses a rope to lower himself into a fast-moving river to rescue a struggling cute dog from the water.

The incident took place in Apodaca in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon when the brave passerby, identified as Fernando, spotted the dog in distress.

In the footage, a young man wearing a baseball cap is seen with his feet in the fast-moving stream while suspended by a rope tied to a post.

As a friend looks on from above, the brave man waits for the struggling dog to pass by and manages to grab its legs and scoop it into his arms.

While the man tries to shuffle up the bank with the dog, his pal eventually goes over to the rope to help pull them up.

According to local media, the video was filmed by an eyewitness who shared it on Facebook where it has been seen 70,000 times.

Reports said that the stream was overflowing following a period of heavy rains.

It is not yet clear whether the dog suffered any injuries or how it ended up in the stream.
