A woman who helped beat her multi-millionaire parents to death with iron bars has opened a sewing workshop after being released from prison on parole.
Suzane von Richthofen, 39, has served 20 years of a 39-year, six-month sentence in Brazil after she was found guilty of the brutal murder of her parents.
She was just 18 when she helped plan and execute the shocking murder of her mother and father.
The notorious case was later turned into the films ‘The Girl Who Killed Her Parents’ and ‘The Boy Who Killed My Parents’.
Now von Richthofen – claimed to be a distant relative of the notorious Red Baron pilot of World War I – has moved to a remote farm in the municipality of Angatuba, in the state of Sao Paulo.
Justice officials declared her fit for parole on 11th January and she is now running the sewing workshop from her new address, according to local media.
The sewing workshop, called ‘Su Entre Linhas’ – or ‘Su Between the Lines’ – even has its own Instagram page with more than 11,000 followers.
Her page shows hand-stitched bags and purses alongside costume jewellery.
And her logo – a pink circle with a sewing machine and flowers – could not be further from her violent past.
Von Richthofen was jailed after she, her boyfriend Daniel Cravinhos, and his brother Cristian were found guilty of the brutal double murder.
Marisia and Manfred von Richthofen were beaten to death in their bed with iron bars after their daughter turned off the burglar alarm, letting the brothers into the house.
Ironically, Marisia pleaded for her killers not to harm her children while von Richthofen – then aged 18 – listened to the slaughter from downstairs.
Netizens appear to be divided, with some critical of the jailbird while others have heaped praise on her.
One said: “The mistake she made was inhumane, but she is paying her sentence, she has lived most of her life in prison, she is well behaved, she is studying, working and wanting to improve. I wish all our inmates left with this mentality.”
Another said: “You are starting over. It is difficult, but everything will have its base of starting over. We are no one to judge you. I myself support and give strength to your undertaking.”
Local media report that von Richthofen has registered as an Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI), a type of sole trader, with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE) in Angatuba.
The killing of von Richthofen’s parents took place on 31st October 2002 after months of planning.
Days before the crime, she had disabled the burglar alarm and the surveillance cameras in the family mansion.
After checking her parents were asleep, von Richthofen opened the door to Daniel and Cristian – then aged 21 and 26 – who had been waiting outside.
The brothers went upstairs to the parents’ bedroom, where they battered them around the head with iron bars.
Manfred died instantly, while Marisia woke up and tried to defend herself with her hands.
As she begged the men not to harm her children, Cristian pressed down on her with a towel, breaking her neck.
As the brothers brutally killed the couple, von Richthofen waited calmly in the sitting room downstairs.
After both were dead, the three perpetrators staged a fake break-in and fled.
Von Richthofen returned with her brother Andreas – who was 15 at the time – early the next morning after he had spent the night at Daniel’s home.
She then called the police after ‘discovering’ the crime scene.
But their alibi soon crumbled and ther three were arrested.
Officers were then baffled by her amorous behaviour with her boyfriend Daniel, at the police station.
Von Richthofen later confessed to her role in the crime, with her motive remaining contested to this day.
Some say she did it because her parents disapproved of her relationship with Daniel, who was unemployed and smoked cannabis every day.
Others, however, believe she committed the crime to inherit her multi-millionaire parents’ wealth.
The crime became notorious in Brazil thanks to von Richthofen’s good looks and her upper-middle-class background.
Psychological tests ruled she was egocentric and had narcissistic personality disorder.
