This woman almost went blind and suffered facial paralysis for seven-months after a woman GP lied to her about being a plastic surgeon, and allegedly botched an eye-filler operation that was meant to reduce dark circles under her eyes.

Banu Yondenli, a Turkish fashion store owner whose age was not disclosed, wanted to have under-eye fillers to make her eyes look younger and reduce dark circles.

She met a doctor, identified only as A. A., who claimed that she was a fully qualified plastic surgeon and offered to carry out the operation.

The operation involves the injection of filling substances just under the patient’s eyes.

Doctor A. A. carried out the operation in the Cekmekoy district in the north-western Turkish city of Istanbul on 31st August 2020.

After the operation, Banu began to notice swelling under her eyes.

The swelling became bigger and bigger to the point where her face was unrecognisable.

Doctors told the woman that the cause of the swelling was almost certainly a result of the eye filler operation being performed incorrectly.

Banu claims that the paralysis went on for seven months and that she was lucky not to have lost her eyesight as a result of the swelling.

Banu filed a criminal complaint against Doctor A. A. with the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

During the legal proceedings, it was revealed that Doctor A. A. had falsely claimed to be a plastic surgeon and in reality, was actually a family doctor who did not have a license to carry out the eye filler operation.

Banu told the Prosecutor’s office: “The left side of my face was paralysed. The doctors told me that it was most probably because of the fillers. I had severe swellings under my eyes as well. I could have lost my eyesight. I have been suffering for several months.”

Banu’s lawyer Ela Tekes said: ” There was clear negligence on behalf of the doctor during this operation. I have come across many cases such as this one where victims are operated on by people who lack the expertise and qualifications to operate safely”

The case is ongoing.
