An Albanian woman has been arrested for allegedly telling the owner of a lost cat she would have to pay 1,000 EUR if she wanted to see the moggy again.

The bizarre incident occurred in the municipality of Grugliasco, in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region of Piedmont after the cat of an unnamed 22-year-old Romanian woman living in Turin went missing.

The owner then put up missing posters with a photo of the cat and her phone number around the Mirafiori district as well as posting on Facebook.

A 54-year-old Albanian woman allegedly then wrote to the unemployed cat owner via WhatsApp allegedly telling her if she wanted to see her cat again she would have to pay 1,000 EUR (891 GBP).

Reports state the two women then exchanged several messages. Which included photos and videos of the cat, and they then agreed to meet up and the cat owner would pay 300 EUR (267 GBP) to have her pet returned.

However, when they met up, the cat owner brought the police along with her who immediately arrested the suspect before returning the cat to the owner.

The cat is reportedly in a healthy condition while the suspect is under house arrest. It is unclear if she has been charged.
