This is the moment a woman is dragged down a street at high speed by a car before breaking free and skidding to a halt on the tarmac after a man reportedly tried to force her inside the vehicle.

The startling scene was recorded by a CCTV camera in the streets of the municipality of Texcoco, in the central Mexican state of Mexico, after the victim, who has not been named but is reportedly around 25 years old was approached by a man after he got out of a Peugeot.

He reportedly tried to force her to get into the vehicle but she resisted. The driver then reportedly began driving away with the woman being dragged several metres down the road.

In the video, two onlookers, one on a motorbike can be seen turning to look as the black Peugeot speeds down the street with the woman being dragged at the rear window. She then drops to the tarmac in a heap as the driver speeds away and the onlooker on the motorbike turns in pursuit.

A female onlooker goes to help the victim to her feet but she stays on her knees in the road as the onlooker signals for help.

Local media report the victim was taken to a nearby health centre where she was treated for cuts and bruising and is reportedly in a good condition.

An investigation has been launched into the incident but no arrests have been reported. No motive has been provided for the attempted kidnapping.
