This is the moment a wolf sinks its fangs into a limp dog as the rest of its pack looks on in footage that has struck fear into the hearts of city residents.

The incident was filmed at night in the city of Kaluga in the south-western Russian region of Kaluga Oblast and was later shared on social media.

It was filmed by a motorist from the safety of his car and shows three adult wolves lingering around the body of a stray dog that is unmoving, although at one point it appears to move its tail.

Traces of blood are seen around the canine’s body as one wolf sinks its fangs into it.

The netizen who filmed the incident said that he was too scared to get out of his vehicle and that one wolf tried to jump inside the car when he opened a window.

According to local media, the same pack of wolves attacked a couple who were forced to take refuge in their car.

Another man had to climb a tree to escape the wolves before calling the emergency services for help, according to reports.

City residents are said to be scared by the threat and it is unclear whether the local authorities have been able to track down the wolf pack yet.

Some reports suggested the animals were Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs, a mix of German Shepherd and Carpathian grey wolf, which are often mistaken for wolves.

Netizen ‘Maksimov’ said: “The local authorities have done nothing to stop this. We used to have packs of stray dogs, now we have wolves. They don’t just bite, they kill!”

‘Svetlana’ commented: “This is terrifying. They are attacking city residents and need to be dealt with.”
