This is the terrifying moment a flying-school aircraft crashes onto a street in a fireball, sending passersby running for cover.
Astonishingly, two men – just feet away from the crash site – survived the drama, while the pilot and his pupil died.
The dramatic footage opens with two men walking in opposite directions down the house-lined street.
One man seems to notice the falling single-engine jet at the last minute and runs out of the way.
The other man fails to spot the plane, which misses him by inches as it scatters debris along the road.
Local residents, including women and children, are then seen emerging from their homes to check what has just happened.
Just seconds later, the plane’s fuel ignites and the wreck explodes in a fireball.
The crash took place in the Baglarbasi neighbourhood of Osmangazi District, in the city of Bursa, in Bursa Province, north-western Anatolia, Turkey.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the PIC Ucus Turkiye flight school earlier today (Tuesday, 26th January).
The statement said: “Our TC-UPT registered aircraft, which took off from Bursa Yunuseli Airport to Yenisehir Airport on April 25, 2022 at 15:00 local time, crashed due to an unknown reason.
“After the accident, our first priority was to reach our aircraft in coordination with the search and rescue teams and obtain information about the health status of our flight crew and the citizens living in the region.
“Although no citizens were harmed in the region where this tragic accident took place, unfortunately our pilots Murat Avsar and Furkan Otkum passed away in the tragic event.
“Our pain is great. This process is difficult for the relatives of the deceased pilots as well as for us.
“Our communication, coordination and investigation process continues with the aircraft/engine/propeller manufacturers, the Security Forces, the Transportation Safety Investigation Commission and all other relevant authorities to transparently investigate the causes of this tragic accident.
“On the other hand, we are in contact with the families of our deceased team members and we are working hard to heal our wounds.
“We would like to thank you for the support you have given to us and our deceased wing friends during this difficult process.
“Our condolences to all the relatives and loved ones of our flight crew who passed away in this tragic accident and to our aviation community.
According to reports, the two deceased were a pilot and a trainee pilot. Governor Yakup Canbolat said the cause of the crash was likely a technical fault.
According to Baglarbasi administrator Huseyin Gumusoy, two homes and five cars were damaged in the crash, but no one on the ground was hurt.
