A woman has won a massive 600,000-EUR jackpot on Ligue 1 and Premier League football by betting the opposite of anything her football fan husband would bet on.

She had reportedly played the Parions Sport Loto Foot betting game, which involved getting the result right fourteen times in a row, similar to the football pools in the United Kingdom. She had got the results right for all 14 French Ligue 1 matches as well as for some Italian and English Premier League matches.

The woman, who lives in the Seine-et-Marne department in northern France, explained her luck by simply saying that she bet “the opposite of what her dad and her husband” would bet.

According to local media, she won 600,000 EUR (507,000 GBP) on Monday 13th January in the town of Annet-sur-Marne but the incredible win and her technique are just being revealed now.

Upon picking up the check for her winnings, she explained to the Francaise des Jeux, France’s national lottery games operator, that she had simply “played the opposite of my dad’s and my husband’s bets who are big football fans.”

On Monday 13th January, she realised she had won the jackpot when she checked her results online. She says she only plays “from time to time” and that “it took me a few hours to realise [that she had won]”.
