In the video, a 61-year-old woman who has been named in reports as Lydia Ramokhele can be seen walking out of a building with a baby on her back.

A white SUV then pulls in off the road but the driver does not stop and instead rams straight into the woman and baby.

The pair are pinned against a wall and the woman falls to the ground. Three people get out of the car in visible shock and a man inspects the bonnet of the car.

They then return to the car and drive away as some onlookers rush to try to stop them escaping.

Local media report a 45-year-old man later handed himself into the police saying he had been driving the car at the time. He was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving before being released on a warning, according to reports.

However, police spokesperson Sam Makhele said further information pointed to a 19-year-old woman having been driving the vehicle at the time and Makhele said she was then found and charged.

The two suspects, who have not been named, are reportedly set to appear in court on Thursday.

Victim Ramokhele was taken to Katleho Hospital before she was transferred to Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein. The baby, whose name and age were not provided, was reportedly treated at Bongani Hospital.

Ramokhele has been discharged after undergoing surgery, there are no updates on the condition of the baby.
