A mother only has herself to blame for being murdered after she refused her husband’s perfectly reasonable request that she stop separation proceedings and return to him with their two children.

That was the claim by Hilmi Yilmaz, 44, who told at the murder trial in Alanya, on the Turkish Riviera, that it was his obstinate wife’s refusal to return with him that then forced him to kill her in a brutal attack with a knife last September.

Hilmi Yilmaz, 44, told the court in Alanya, on the Turkish Riviera, that if his wife, Gulseren Yilmaz, 32, had agreed to come home then she would still be here today.

He said: “If my wife had accepted my offer of reconciliation, then I would have taken her home.”

Yilmaz was videolinked into the trial’s third session at the First High Criminal Court of Alanya from prison over the death of his wife of 15 years.

He is currently in jail after confessing to the murder and will be sentenced at a later date following hearings and testimony.

Gulseren, the mother of their 13 and 7-year-old children, was murdered at 11:30am on 26th September 2019.

In spite of a restraining order, Yilmaz broke into Gulseren’s father’s house where she was hiding alone and stabbed her 14 times.

When he first went to the house he allegedly banged on the door, but she didn’t answer, so he broke the glass and entered.

He then took her into the garden where he stabbed her all over her body before he then fled the scene.

Neighbours reported the screams to emergency services who took her to a local hospital where she died.

Sometime after the murder, Yilmaz rang Gulseren’s father and confessed shortly before turning himself in to the police.

Further hearings will occur at a later date.
