This is the moment two villagers rescue a huge eagle that is being throttled by a snake.

The video was filmed in the district of Imranli in the central Turkish province of Sivas when two residents spotted the unusual confrontation.

The unnamed villagers approached the scene and saw a two-metre long snake strangling a large eagle.

The eagle was said to be close to death when the villagers untangled the snake’s body from around its neck.

After being rescued, the eagle flew away while the residents reportedly killed the snake by beating its head with a stick.

An amateur video that was shared on social media shows the two men approaching the large bird of prey.

After apparently wounding the snake with a rake, one of the men is seen untangling its body from around the gasping eagle’s neck.

He releases the bird and it appears to be all right as it flies off into the distance.

The same man then appears to kill the snake by whacking its head with a stick.

Reports did not mention which species the eagle and snake belonged to.

Netizens had a lot to say about the encounter, with ‘Murat Ekinci’ suggesting: “You should never interfere with nature.”

‘Banu’ commented: “This is wrong. They save one animal and kill the other.”

‘Kenan58’ said: “You saved the eagle, but why kill the snake?”
