According to the county Emergency Management Office, 267 villagers from 57 households had been successfully evacuated from the mountain village following the fire.

Officials say 62 homes – made traditionally out of wood – were destroyed in the blaze despite firefighting efforts by local residents.

Footage from Hulu Village shows the entire settlement plunged into darkness following a suspected power outage, with silhouettes of the homes visible among the flames and smoke.

A spokeswoman for the Hulu Town People’s Government said no one was injured during the fire.

Hundreds of residents have already been relocated and resettled in temporary housing, and were provided with additional clothing, food supplies and tents.

Some of the victims have been taken in by their family members, she added.

Officials said they suspected a faulty electrical wire had started the fire, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
