This is the moment a van driver speeds down the wrong side of a busy motorway before ploughing head-on into a lorry with an ear-shattering thud.
The incident took place on the Campana Motorway leading into the eastern Argentine capital Buenos Aires at around 4.40am.
Eyewitness Martin Cersosimo, who filmed the accident, told local media that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was a Bolivian citizen named Felipe Choquevillca Flores and that he “did not seem drunk”.
Cersosimo added that the van driver avoided several heavy goods vehicles before finally hitting the lorry.
He told local media: “We were stunned to see the van’s rear lights on the wrong side of the motorway. We thought he accessed the motorway by mistake, but time passed and he just kept on going. We alerted the emergency services.”
Cersosimo added: “The lorry driver could not do anything to avoid the van, it was right there in front of him.”
According to local media, Choquevillca Flores died on the scene while the unnamed lorry driver received medical treatment for minor injuries.
An investigation into the tragic accident is ongoing. It is unclear why the van driver was driving on the wrong side of the motorway.
In the footage, the white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is seen passing numerous heavy goods vehicles on the wrong side of the motorway before crashing into the orange lorry with a sickening thud.
