The monument shows the 59-year-old martial arts star doing the splits between two wood logs.

Local resident Shakir Eminbeyli came up with the idea which was then designed by sculptor Azad Aliyev, according to reports.

The retired martial artist, best known for his action films, said about the new monument: “Another life-size JCVD statue which is mounted in a village named ‘Vandam’ in Azerbaijan! By sculptor Azad Aliyev. Thank you.”

Initially, the statue was erected in October but was then taken away by the local authorities.

Netizen ‘Yasmine Jamila’ commented: “This is cool, really awesome.”

‘Rosita Dimova’ said: “There is a lot of respect and recognition from your fans in Azerbaijan. They truly love you.”

Van Damme’s most popular films include Double Impact, 1991, Universal Soldier, 1992, and Timecop and Street Fighter from 1994.
