This footage – dubbed “the clearest images ever captured” – apparently shows a flying saucer hovering in the sky above an area with a history of supposed extra-terrestrial sightings.

The incident was filmed in the municipality of San Agustin de las Juntas in the south-western Mexican state of Oaxaca and shared on social media by netizen ‘DixiOaxaca’ where it has sparked a debate.

The Twitter user said: “If this is true, these are the clearest images ever captured.”

In the clip, the UFO is seen hovering in the misty skyline next to a mountain.

So far, local authorities have not commented on the incident or on the authenticity of the footage. Mexican local media outlets have published the images, with some netizens apparently fearing an alien invasion, while others suspect the footage to be fake.

Netizens had a lot to say about the mysterious object, with local media saying some social media users claiming that the area is known for its pre-Hispanic history and ancient links to UFO sightings.

Netizen ‘DavidSosa2’ commented: “Presuming that it is true, what on earth are those stupid aliens doing in that little town?”

‘Fsalea’ who said: “That is the same type of UFO spotted in the area over 50 years ago.”

However, some users believe that the video is fake, with ‘MikeeMayer claiming: “It is not real, and it’s very bad. If you compare the light with the shadows on the alleged spacecraft, they do not match up. Zero points for the editors.”
