These images show an abandoned convenience store in Japan that has been overrun by nature for nearly 20 years.

The photos were taken by Twitter user ‘EyesHunter’ in the central Japanese prefecture of Saitama, neighbouring with the capital Tokyo.

‘EyesHunter’ said that they visited the eerie street corner over 10 years ago, suggesting it was overrun by nature then, and that they decided to visit the building to see what it looked like.

The Twitter user admitted that the old Yamazaki convenience store appeared more impressive than they remembered.

According to local media, a Yamazaki Y store was in operation there until 2001.

In the images, the rundown store still bears the company’s orange and yellow brand.

Meanwhile, plants and vegetation are seen sprouting out of the building and wrapping around a utility pole.

However, at least one home on the upper floors appears to be lived in.

There is also a row of rundown vending machines offering snacks, tobacco, toys and knick-knacks.

Netizen ‘Ged Maybury’ said: “Fabulous! Well worth the visit via Google Maps, as you can ‘stroll’ the adjourning streets and get many different views. Also a better sense of where it sits in relation to the landform, river and bridge.”

‘JekamaruSkull’ commented: “Nice. Really looks like Ghlibli (Japanese animation film studio).”
