Trapped Dog Runs In Circles As Molten Lava Approaches From La Palma Volcano

These images show a trapped animal – believed to be a dog – running in circles in a water tank as molten lava approaches from the active volcano in La Palma.

The incident took place on the island of La Palma in the Spanish Canary Islands where a large-scale volcanic eruption has been raging since last month.

The footage, apparently shot using a drone, shows an animal running around in circles in what appears to be a small concrete water tank.

Satellite images show that the location of the animal, apparently a dog, is in the middle of a section of land that the magma bypassed on both sides, creating a small island of safety for the time being.

Alejandro Molina, a spokesperson for local animal rights organisation Leales.org, told Newsflash in an exclusive interview that they believe the animal is a dog, more specifically a Pekingese. They also said that they believe there is more than one dog trapped by the lava.

He added: “We want to encourage the government of Las Palmas to coordinate an operation to send a drone carrying water and food to trapped animals.”

Molina also said: “What we are asking for is that the animals are kept alive until the conditions are right for a team to be sent in to rescue them.”

A drone carrying water and food, belonging to the Military Emergency Unit (UME), is scheduled to be sent over to the stranded animals, according to media outlet TeleCinco.

The volcano on La Palma has continued to intensify, with Spanish newspaper El Pais reporting today that the eruption is still continuing to intensify with experts warning that “there are no signs of it ending”.

So far, over 1,000 buildings have been destroyed and thousands of people have been evacuated, with animal rights organisations saying they are overwhelmed by the number of abandoned pets they are having to take in.

The latest El Pais report makes mention of an increase in effusive and explosive activity which has led to an increase in lava flows.

There are three hunting dogs, one very exhausted. Two are in the tank, I eat outside, there will be no better conditions to take them to a helicopter, the lava is getting closer, the air is dry, poisonous and hot. Either they die or they are burned by the lava in front of the “defenders” of animal rights.
