This is the moment a tram is forced to travel at walking pace as a woman wearing headphones strolls down the tracks without noticing the moving locomotive behind her.
The bizarre incident took place on Nastavnikov Avenue in Krasnogvardeyskiy district of Russia’s second city of St Petersburg and was recorded on a smart phone by an onlooker identified as Maria Dolbina.
The footage shows a young woman dressed in black winter jacket walking just inches away from the tram tracks.
The tram driver is forced to slow down to the woman’s speed and rings the warning bell to try to get her attention but she does not appear to notice.
The woman was reportedly listening to loud music on her headphones and the tram is forced to keep pace with her until she reaches a platform where an onlooker moves her off the tracks and points at the tram.
Netizen ‘Roman Shakhmatov’ said: “This driver is really cool.”
Another one named ‘Dmitriy Morozov’ added: “I think she did that on purpose. Maybe she was somewhat angry with the entire world, and this tram and people inside of it had to pay for it.”
‘Katerina Bakhmatova’ ironically commented: “I think this girl simply wanted to feel that she can rule the world by means of dictating what this tram does.”
While the majority of online commentators called the young woman ‘irresponsible’ and ‘stupid’ for not only risking her life but disrupting the public transportation system.
