A dutiful surgeon has been pictured leading a five-hour surgery on one knee after deciding to go ahead with an operation despite her broken foot.

Doctor Tian Rong, who is Deputy Chief of Medicine at Kangda Hospital, saw her photos go viral and liked thousands of times online after her colleagues posted snaps of her kneeling in the operating theatre.

The pictures were taken in the facility in Siyang County in East China’s Jiangsu Province, where the patient surnamed Sun, 63, had booked her surgery.

Sun was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in her uterus, and she reportedly chose the hospital specifically for Doctor Tian, who is a specialist gynaecological surgeon in the field.

However, a week before the operation, Doctor Tian tripped and fell in the hospital due to fatigue, breaking her left foot in the process.

Despite her injury, she decided not to delay her patient’s treatment and powered through the surgery by kneeling on a wooden stool.

The images show Doctor Tian completely focused during the procedure, with her left foot in a brace while resting on a cushion on the furniture.

The medic, who once performed 19 surgeries in 24 hours, said she could not let her patient down.

“Unless you’re bedridden and absolutely cannot move, otherwise you can’t just say no to the surgery,” she said.

She is being hailed as a model for China’s medical professionals, who often find themselves overworked and understaffed.
