A well-known Argentine lawyer who was amongst the first people in the country to wed a partner of the same sex has been found dead with her throat slit.

Veronica Dessio, 49, was found dead at her home in the neighbourhood of Villa Elvira in the Argentine city of La Plata on the night of 23rd December.

Dessio married her partner, psychologist Carolina Paola Perez, in June 2010, becoming the first female couple to get married in the province of Buenos Aires.

Perez, 48, had since separated from Dessio, but remained living in an annex on the property.

Perez found the victim when she noticed that her front door was ajar.

According to reports, the victim was found lying dead in a pool of blood with a deep cut to the neck and numerous stab wounds to her back and all over her body.

The pair had a son who was not at home at the time of the killing.

Investigators do not believe the crime was a robbery, as no money or valuable items were taken from the home.

The police have been unable to locate the weapon used and they have requested to see the footage from a neighbour’s security camera for analysis.
